The Mechanic is exactly what I look for when I rent a Jason Stathem action thriller from the Redbox. A flat plot that doesn’t throw you on any curves, a movie that you can dose off to for a quick 20 min cat-nap in the middle of the story and not miss anything, but wake up just in time to see some unnecessary nudity from a hot chick that he picked up from the bar and brought home cause he is a bad ass assassin!
For the sake of my credibility, I will say I didn’t actually fall asleep during the movie, but you get my point.
The movie follows an elite hit man as he works for and against his own company and also grooms an apprentice who he has very close connections with. It is a pretty good watch, as I mentioned before, nothing too crazy but good enough to stick with for the fast paced 90 plus mins. I do really like Ben Foster, I have seen him in a few movies now, 3:10 to Yuma and The Messenger and he always seems to deliver a pretty solid performance…very solid in “Yuma”
There is a part of me that wished I would have caught this movie with a couple of my Bro Buddy’s in the 2nd run theater… The type of guys that I could never see a good movie with, but the type that would come out chest butting after they see this. Then I could have seen it with the right crowd, up on the big screen, and still only paid $3 which this movie might just be worth. Either way, that moment has passed so check it out it on your Netflix queue only if you get multiple movies at a time or rent it for a buck at the Redbox next time you are stopping in for a McFlurry and enjoy.
